 Vivo Fold 2 and Flip phones: The new challengers in the foldable market

Vivo, the Chinese smartphone maker, has recently unveiled its two new foldable smartphones, the Vivo X Fold 2 and the Vivo X Flip, in China. These devices are the latest additions to the growing foldable market, which is currently dominated by Samsung with its Galaxy Z series.

The Vivo X Fold 2 is a book-type foldable phone that transforms from a tablet-sized device to a candybar-shaped phone. The Vivo X Flip is a clamshell-style foldable phone that folds a phone vertically into a compact square. Both phones feature 120Hz AMOLED foldable displays, Snapdragon 8 series chipsets, and ZEISS cameras.

In this article, we will compare the key features and specifications of the Vivo X Fold 2 and the Vivo X Flip, and see how they stack up against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which are the current leaders in the foldable segment.

Design and display

The Vivo X Fold 2 and the Vivo X Flip have different design approaches for their foldable mechanisms. The Vivo X Fold 2 uses a droplet-style hinge system, which is lighter and more durable than the previous generation. The hinge also allows for a gapless folding experience, which reduces the crease on the screen. The Vivo X Flip uses a waterdrop hinge mechanism, which also minimizes the gap and the crease on the screen.

The Vivo X Fold 2 has an 8.03-inch E6 AMOLED LTPO main display with a resolution of 1916 x 2160 pixels and a 4:3.55 aspect ratio. The display supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and has a peak brightness of 1800 nits. The main display also has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a 16MP front-facing camera in a punch-hole cutout.

The Vivo X Flip has a 6.74-inch LTPO AMOLED main display with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels and a 21:9 aspect ratio. The display also supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and has a peak brightness of 1300 nits. The main display also has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a 32MP front-facing camera in a punch-hole cutout.

The cover display of the Vivo X Fold 2 is a 6.53-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels and a 21:9 aspect ratio. The cover display supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and has a peak brightness of 800 nits. The cover display also has a 16MP front-facing camera in a punch-hole cutout.

The cover display of the Vivo X Flip is a 3-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 422 x 682 pixels and a 14.5:9 aspect ratio. The cover display can be used for various tasks such as texting, maps navigation, social media apps, etc. The cover display also has an interactive cat character that reacts to alarms and notification alerts.

The Vivo X Fold 2 comes in three colors: black, purple, and gold. The device measures 158 x 128 x 6.5 mm when unfolded and weighs about 300 grams.
